Horse Camps

Horse Camps

We started conducting Horse Camp in 2006 as we saw the need of activities for children when school is out. Over the years it has become the highlight for kids and parents for the summer. We not only instruct kids how to be around a horse, care for the horse, tack and ride, but we teach body language and communication with the horse (as per horse whispering methods). Kids get a hands on experience halter training foals as well as discipline in the arena and of course lots and lots of riding. We also add other components to the camp such as arts and crafts, music, games, pool time, and much more. Camp always begins on a Wednesday and ends Monday morning. Included in the price is accommodations, meals, all craft materials, activities, riding instruction and equipment. Minimum age for campers is 7 years unless accompanied by a parent or guardian (parent or guardian is expected to participate in all activities with child). There is no maximum age limit.

Price: $250 USD + 12.5% tax

Night Ride

Night Jungle Walk or Horseback Ride

Walk with our guide through Banana Bank grounds and on the Nature Trail or ride on into the jungle on a beautiful moon-lit night or during a dark starry night is quite the adventure. Immerse yourself in the sounds and smells of a jungle at night. Grab your headlights because you are about to have a memorable night experience.

During the Night Horseback Tour you will enjoy an exciting ride along broad-leaf forest trails, teak plantation, and pastures, to a hill top under a full moon. Riding through the jungle at night is exhilarating. You may spot kinkajous or owls high up in the trees. An occasional peccary or even once a tapir was spotted on the trail. Your keen senses will have your imagination running wild. We then meander down to the Belize River where we sometimes have a bonfire to roast marshmallows and hot dogs (we must have minimum of 8 riders for a bonfire). Finish your evening with the final journey by horse, back to the main lodge. Tour starts after dinner and last for 1 ½ - 3 hrs.

Flash/head lamps are provided (but you are welcome to bring your own)

During the Night Jungle Walk - your guide will show and teach you about different trees, plants and vines that have played important roles in human lives. Some produce edible fruits, some used for jungle hut construction, while others may contain medicinal values. Along these jungle trails, you may see nocturnal creatures such as kinkajous, insects, owls, and bats. At some point you will turn off your lights for a few minutes just to observe the silence, but yet the noisiness, of the night. You may hear the loud howl-like vocalization of the Black-and-White Owl, or the low toad-like murmuring of the Vermiculated Screech-Owl, and the shrill chirping of crickets, locusts, and grasshoppers.

Day Trips

Day Trip- Experience the Belize jungle on horseback

If you only have one day to discover Belize, this horseback riding adventure is the best opportunity to explore it all. From breathtaking riverside jungle scenery to beautiful exotic tropical birds, you'll experience a world unlike anywhere you've ever been before. Ride through old Mayan landscapes and be immersed in the sights and the sounds of the jungle on horseback.
Banana Bank Lodge is Belize's largest equestrian center, with 25 years of experience, 80 well-trained riding horses and highly professional wranglers, who will not only be able to assist you with your riding needs, but will also be able to tell you many of the interesting facts about the jungle and its inhabitants. Don't worry if it's your first time on a horse, all riding levels are catered for, from the novice to the well experienced.

Apart from the exciting jungle scenery, you will ride through Banana Bank's Teak Plantation, through the open fields (great for some cantering) and along the Belize River. If you're lucky you might see Howler Monkeys, Parrots, Toucans or other wildlife along the way. After the ride it's time to enjoy some of the best food Belize has to offer in a traditional thatched-roof restaurant, followed by ``the yard tour`` meeting Spider Monkeys and Exotic Birds (many of these animals were brought to the resort after they got injured and have become part of the Banana Bank family).

The end of the day will be spent meandering down the Belize River by boat where you'll be certain to see many Iguanas, untold amount of water birds and maybe even some Crocodiles or Turtles. Again, you'll be accompanied by a knowledgeable guide who will be able to help you spot the animals and tell you all about them.

It would be hard to get any closer to nature than this and still, Banana Bank is only a 50-minute drive from Belize City and only 2 miles from Belmopan (the smallest capital in the world). After taking this trip, you'll understand why Belize is called ``Mother Nature's best kept secret``.
